In our walk of faith, it’s easy to fall into the mindset that our relationship with God is based on what we can do for Him. We may worry about how much we give, serve, or sacrifice, measuring our worth by our deeds. But the truth of God’s heart is profoundly different. God is not a taskmaster seeking something from us; He is a loving Father who desires the best for us.
Here, we’ll explore what God wants for us and anchor it in the truths of Scripture.
1. God Wants Us to Experience His Love
At the core of God’s desire for us is His immeasurable love. He created us not out of necessity, but out of love.
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)
God’s love is not conditional or dependent on what we can give Him. It’s a gift freely given, one that He wants us to embrace fully.
2. God Wants Us to Find Rest in Him
In a world that often values productivity over peace, God calls us to rest in Him. He doesn’t demand endless work but offers us a rhythm of grace.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29)
God desires for us to lay down our burdens and find true rest in His presence, trusting in His provision and care.
3. God Wants Us to Live Abundantly
God’s plan for us isn’t marked by scarcity or lack. He desires that we live life to the fullest, experiencing His goodness and grace.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)
Abundance in God’s eyes is not limited to material wealth but includes peace, joy, purpose, and a deep sense of belonging in His family.
4. God Wants Us to Be Transformed
God’s ultimate goal is to shape us into the likeness of His Son, Jesus Christ. This transformation is not about striving, but about yielding to His Spirit.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)
God wants us to live in freedom, becoming more like Christ as we trust and obey Him.
5. God Wants Us to Share in His Glory
God’s desire is not just for us to know Him, but to share in His glory. He invites us into a divine relationship where we are co-heirs with Christ.
“And if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” (Romans 8:17)
This is a breathtaking promise that reveals the depths of God’s love for us and His plans for our eternal future.
Conclusion
God doesn’t need anything from us; He is complete and self-sufficient. What He wants is for us to experience His love, rest, abundance, transformation, and glory. When we align our hearts with His and focus on what He has for us, we begin to see the beauty of His plans unfold in our lives.
Let us remember that our worth is not in what we do but in who we are in Christ—beloved children of a gracious and generous Father.
